Clarissa Pinkola Estes tells the story of Baubo, the laughing Vulva Goddess in her book, "Women who Run with Wolves". She states, "I have always loved this little Baubo more than any other Goddess ... she is the talisman of women-talk... as her vulva was her mouth."

The Wondrous Vulva Puppet is a resurrection of Baubo, who appeared to women when they were in need of the healing power of laughter. She would tell a few raunchy jokes, release tension and pave the way for openness.

Vulva Puppets encourage storytelling. Therapist and counselors speak of the impact a puppet has on opening communication and allowing people to express their experiences, fears and anger. I was invited by the founder of "Releasing Inner Secrets Kept", (she was one of the first women to testify to a Congressional Committe on childhood sexual abuse) to her first conference on sexual abuse. I set up my table filled with Wondrous Vulva Puppets, in the beginning, not one, of the thousand attendees would look my way, let alone stop at my table. As the day wore on, and as the attendees (mostly survivors) came out of conferences and lectures, they began stopping by my table to ask questions, pick up a puppet, share a story and in no time, there was an impromptu "puppet show" going on with women crowding around the table waiting for a chance to let their Vulva speak.

Rape prevention educators use the puppet to empower women of all ages towards embracing their special, inner beauty. Resulting in a better understanding of their vulvas and thus honoring themselves.
