Dearest Sisters,
At the ripe old age of 15 , I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy. His father and I chose to bring this life into the world and to get married as well. So there I was trying to raise my child yet I was but a child myself. All I knew was that every time I looked at or even thought of my son, I knew and felt a love that I had never known before.
Now, I'm 31 and my son will be turning 16 this Sept. It's been a rough road for the both of us (husband died when my son was 3), but we've weathered every storm. Each time I look at my son I see this huge man before me and wonder where my baby boy went. Recently, my son shared with me that he is gay. I must admit at first I was shocked, but then reality hit me. Here I was this mother who always tried to protect their child from the boogie men of the world, and now I felt helpless to the hatred and abuse that was waiting for my son. When my son "came out" to the family he came out at school as well. He has been the butt of jokes and hate-filled words, yet he still remains the wonderful man that he is.
I'm proud to say that Brandon is my son,
not my gay son,
just my son..................,
and every time I look at him I feel a love straight
from God's graces.
I am his mother...........
Sherry is mother to two children (ages 15 and 6), as well as a full time nursing student. She lives with her family in San Bernardino, Ca.
